The Business

Argyll Group milks 2200 cows across 3 dairy units with dry stock land fully supporting the dairy business at Clydevale, South Otago. We’re a stone’s throw from Central Otago (1 hour).

The Role

We’re looking for a 2IC to support the McCallbraes team to milk 800 cows, through a 50 bail rotary shed supported by ACRs and in-shed feeding.  Complimenting a team of 4 full time employees and a seasonal calf rearer you’ll need to be a strong team player.   The farm has good infrastructure including a large calf shed and calving pad.

We’re looking for someone with a solid dairying foundation and strengths in milking, feeding and caring for cows.  This is a great opportunity to step into management or grow your skills supported by on and off farm training.  Working alongside the farm manager and operations manager you’ll be involved in all aspects of the business and build your capability to ‘step up’ and make key day-to-day farm management decisions.  This is a great opportunity to hone your basic farming skills and set you up for farm management.

We know work life balance is important and offer a 6:2 roster from August – December (calving and mating) and a 5:2 roster for the rest of the year.

What we’re looking for:

  • A solid foundation in cows, grass and animal health management;

  • Great attention to detail (including recording and reporting) and a commitment to producing high quality milk;

  • An excellent communicator with a “no surprises” approach;

  • Willingness to share information, knowledge and energy to support the whole team;

  • A positive attitude to learning new skills, a passion for dairying and a commitment to continuous improvement;

  • A team player, who can build successful relationships with our wider team and contribute positively to our business;

  • A strong commitment to health, safety and wellbeing (we operate a drug and alcohol free workplace).

 

This is an exciting opportunity which offers future growth and progression within the business.  A four bedroom home is available with school bus at the end of the road to both primary and high schools.
